AUGUST 2026 NEWSLETTER

INTERCESSION PRAYER FOR APPOINTMENT OF

NATIONAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR OF THE WAF-E&W

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we continue to give thanks to God for the faithful service of our late National Spiritual Director, Canon Jason Jones, and remember him in our prayers, we invite all members of our community to unite in a special Novena for an important intention.

Beginning on 7th August and concluding on 15th August, with 16th of August, being the beautiful Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we will offer this Novena asking the Holy Spirit to guide us in the appointment of a new National Spiritual Director, who will faithfully shepherd, encourage, and support our community in our shared journey of faith.

We warmly encourage every member to participate in this Novena. Whether praying individually, with your family, or as part of your local prayer group, your prayers are a precious gift. United in faith and hope, let us entrust our intentions to the loving care of Our Blessed Mother, confident that God will continue to guide and bless our community.

May the Lord bless you, and may Our Lady of the Assumption keep you always in her loving care.

Featured this month:  Conversion & The Interrupted Apparition

The August edition of our Newsletter invites us to reflect on the theme ‘Conversion and the Interrupted Apparition’, recalling how our Lady’s message at Fatima could not be silenced, even when the August apparition was delayed by human opposition. Her call to prayer, penance and conversion remained steadfast, bearing fruit in the heart of the children and in countless faithful ever since. It is a powerful reminder that grace can pause, but never withdraw.

16 August, the Solemnity of the Assumption has been transferred from the Saturday to the Sunday. This feast lifts our hearts to our Blessed Mother Mary taken into heavenly glory, and the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 22 August reveals her gentle reign as Mother and Queen, lead us ever closer to Christ through faithful conversion and unwavering hope.

May these feasts strengthen our desire for conversion, and deepen our love for Jesus and our Beloved Mother Mary.

AUGUST - CONVERSION AND THE INTERRUPTED APPARITION

The Story of a Heart That God Never Stops Seeking

By Father Marcin Budzinski

As we reflect on this month's theme, "Conversion and the Interrupted Apparition," we are invited to see the message of Fatima as Heaven's enduring call to conversion, a call that begins with God's timeless question: "Where are you?"

In his article, Fr Marcin Budzinski helps us to journey through Scripture, and to understand the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and the spirituality of Fatima. True conversion is not driven by fear, but by the merciful love of God, who never grows weary of seeking His children and leading them home through the Immaculate Heart of Mary to the Heart of Christ.  NEWSLETTER CONTENTS

Dear Members,

In August 1917, the apparition of Our Lady was interrupted when the local administrator, Artur Santos, abducted the seers on August 13th. He took them to Ourém in an attempt to force them to reveal the secret and denounce the apparitions. Although they were not physically harmed, the children were threatened and were prepared to die for their faith—such was their total trust in God.

As a result, the August apparition of Our Lady took place instead on the 19th of the month, at a place called Valinhos. Furthermore, as a consequence of this abduction, Our Lady mentioned that the promised miracle on 13 October 1917 would not be as great. I have often wondered what the original miracle would have been, given that the actual event was witnessed by 70,000 people who saw the sun dance on that day!

Perhaps the message we can take from the events surrounding the abduction of the children is to persevere in our own trials. When we feel challenged, we must—like the three little seers—put our total trust in God’s providence. We do so with the knowledge that Our Holy Mother’s Immaculate Heart will be our refuge and the way that will lead us to her Son, Jesus.

This month we have a number of important notices. One in particular urgently needs your prayers, asking Our Holy Mother to guide us as we seek a new National Spiritual Director.

We are also releasing details for the National Pilgrimage to Fatima, planned for September 10–17, 2027, and are seeking initial expressions of interest so we can assess pilgrim numbers. Further details are given below along with other important notices.

A Heart Always Open to God

Fr. John Erambil explains that conversion is not a single moment but a lifelong journey of continually turning our hearts back to God through His grace. In this reflection, we consider how the Blessed Virgin Mary is the perfect model of this continual conversion and how the Sacrament of Reconciliation renews us in God's mercy, leading us ever closer to the Heart of Christ.

Preparing Our Hearts for Confession in the Spirit of Fatima

Preparing Our Hearts for Confession in the Spirit of Fatima

The August apparition at Fatima may have been interrupted, but Heaven's call to repentance and renewal remained undiminished. Before approaching the mercy of God in Confession, we are invited to pause and prayerfully examine our hearts. In this article, we explore how the Examination of Conscience, rooted in the Ten Commandments, can deepen our preparation to Confession. This prayerful examination offers a path of self-reflection, repentance and grace, helping us embrace Our Lady's call to draw ever closer to Christ with sincerity and trust.

From Camino to Conversion: A Pilgrim's Encounter at Pontevedra

From Camino to Conversion: A Pilgrim's Encounter at Pontevedra

Following the completion of the Camino de Santiago by Father Ghebreyesus and his companions, a visit to a little-known convent in Pontevedra became an unexpected highlight of their pilgrimage. In this place, Our Lady and the Child Jesus appeared to Sr Lucia of Fatima one hundred years ago, entrusting her with the mission of promoting the First Five Saturday Devotion. Father Ghebreyesus found himself, reflecting on a question that remains just as relevant today: who will take responsibility for living and spreading the Five First Saturdays Devotion?

What Father Ghebreyesus encountered in this sacred place deepened his understanding of the Five First Saturdays Devotion and challenged him to consider how he is responding to Heaven's request.

WAF Members Online Formation and Training

Dear Brethren In Christ,

Blessed Friday to all!

Inviting you to our 8th WAF E&W Formation session, this coming 17 August 2026 @ 19:00 via MS teams.

We are grateful to have Father Thomas Hiney, our Spiritual Director for the Portsmouth Diocese. He will give us guidance regarding the Sanctification of our daily duties. Recalling the words of the Angel of Peace to the three shepherd children:

"Make of everything you can a sacrifice, and offer it to God as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for the conversion of sinners. You will thus draw down peace upon your country... Above all, accept and bear with submission the suffering which the Lord will send you."

God bless us all! Ave Maria!

Sincerely,

Marie
