Jacinta’s vision of the Holy Father at the Loca da Cabeco: “Can’t you see all those highways and roads and fields full of people who are crying with hunger and have nothing to eat? And the Holy Father in a church praying before the Immaculate Heart of Mary ? And so many people praying with him?”

After seeing the vision of hell on 13 th July 1917, Jacinta said: “We must pray very much , to save souls from hell. So many go there. Why doesn’t Our Lady show hell to sinners? If they saw it, they would not sin …” oing to dance any more, because I want to offer this sacrifice to Our Lord.”

His father asked Francisco why he was sobbing one night, believing he had hurt himself: “I was thinking of Jesus who is so sad because of the sins committed against Him.”

After the first apparition of Our Lady on 13 th May 1917 Francisco said: “O my dear Our Lady, I will say as many Rosaries as you want.” He also said: “I loved seeing the Angel, but I loved still more seeing Our Lady. What I loved most of all was to see Our Lord in that light from Our Lady which penetrated our hearts. I love God so much. But he is very sad because of so many sins!”

If the Apostle Paul tells us to pray for one another, (Ephesians 6:18-20)we have much more reason to ask Mary to pray for us, because her prayer will be much more pleasing to the Lord in view of her dignity as Mother of God and her closer union with Christ, true God and true Man, by reason of her mission of co-Redemptrix with Christ as well as her great sanctity. Those who say the Rosary daily are like children who, every day, manage to find a few moments just to be with their Father, to keep him company, to show him their gratitude, to do some service for him, to receive his advice and his blessing. It is an exchange of love, the love of the father for the child and the child for the father; it is a mutual giving. I believe that, after the liturgical prayer of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the prayer of the holy Rosary, because of its origin and sublime nature of the prayers which compose it and also on account of the mysteries of our redemption which we recall and contemplate in each decade, is the most pleasing prayer we can offer to God and the one most beneficial to our souls. If this were not so, Our Lady would not have recommended it to us with such insistence. Calling to mind the insistence with which God, by means of the Fatima message, recommends the prayer of the Rosary, and also all that the Church’s Magisterium has said about it over the years, we can conclude that the Rosary is a form of vocal prayer which, in general, suits all of us, for which we should have the highest regard, and which we should make the greatest effort never to abandon. Even if people do not want to heed the voice of God , its echo must vibrate in the human conscience for as long as the race exists and afterwards- in eternity, in the despair of those who, because they did not follow it, are lost forever. Why does the message ask us to continue to pray the Rosary ? Because prayer is the basis of spiritual life. If we give up praying, we deprive ourselves of that supernatural life which comes to us from the meeting of our soul with God, a meeting which comes about in prayer. Without a life of prayer and contact with God, every apostolate is fruitless, because it is God who makes effective what we do, what we say and the efforts we make. Hence, the Message tells us: “Pray and make sacrifices” so that through your prayers, your words, your example, your acts of self denial, your work and your charity, you will be able to help your brothers and sisters to get up again if they have fallen, to return to the right path if they have strayed away from it, and to draw close to God if they are estranged from Him. I think that the special injunction from Our Lady to Francisco that he should say many Rosaries is for all of us. It is not that saying many Rosaries, as such, is an indispensable condition for going to Heaven, but that we must pray much. Naturally, to say the Rosary every day was the most accessible form of prayer for those children, as it is today for the great majority of people, and there is no doubt that it will be difficult for someone to be saved if they never pray. Another practice is to pray , in the spirit of penance , with one’s arms outstretched in the form of the cross, in union with Christ crucified, or to pray prostrate with one’s forehead touching the ground, thus abasing ourselves before God Whom we have dared to offend, we who are nothing to his presence. Although such penances are not obligatory, they are necessary in many cases; for example, to help overcome fiery natures which cause people to sin, or the violent temptations of the world, the devil, pride and the flesh. We all desire and long for peaceful days, to be able to live in peace . But this peace will not be achieved until we use the Law of God as the norm and guide to our steps. Now the entire Message of Fatima is a call to pay attention to this Divine Law. (p. 59) In carrying out our every day tasks, we must endeavour to be aware of God’s presence: call to mind that God and our Angel Guardian are close to us, see what we are doing, and in what frame of mind we are doing it. Hence we must sanctify our work, our rest, our meals, our wholesome entertainments, as if they were an ongoing prayer . This intimate and familiar converse with God, transforms our work and our daily occupations into a true and abiding life of prayer, making us more pleasing to God and bringing down upon us extra special graces and blessings. Let us make sure that our life with God is all that it should be by our faithful and constant observance of His law and His word which is His Word incarnate, Jesus Christ our Saviour: “He who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life” (John 5:24). It is therefore alarming to see, in today’s society, the ease with which people plunge into immorality . To remedy the situation, there is only one solution: the people should repent , reform their lives and do penance. We must realize that we have been made sharers of the priesthood of Christ in order to co-operate in His work of Redemption. The realization of this will help us to observe worthily the precept concerning Sunday as an obligation, by the study of the laws and truth of God, so that, in our daily lives, we may know how they apply in each case, how to live them ourselves and transmit them to those around us, above all to those entrusted by Heaven to our responsibility. It is true that keeping the word of God involves self-denial and renunciation, but it is also that it is precisely in this self denial and renunciation, that we prove our love to God: ‘If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’ (Mark 8:34). ๏ปฟ Quotes from Sr. Lucia's Calls regarding the Message of Fatima (p. 122) - with minor edits in some instances.

From the moment of our conception, our life continues through time and goes on to eternity , where it will abide. As long as we live on this earth we are pilgrims on the way to heaven, if we keep to the way that God has marked out for us. This is the most important thing in our lives: that we should behave in such away as to ensure that, when we depart from this world and at the end of time, we shall deserve to hear from the lips of Jesus Christ those consoling words: “Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:34). For us who have the happiness of possessing the gift of faith, which we receive in the gift of Baptism, the duty to be holy obliges us to something more: to be clothed with supernatural life, to impart a supernatural character to all our actions, in other words to be holy because God is holy. This duty obliges us to live in the shadow of the holiness of God. (p. 196) God Himself guides our steps along the road to holiness : “I am God Almighty, walk before me and be blameless”. (Genesis 17:1). To walk in the presence of God is to realize that His gaze is upon us, and that our whole being is, as it were, in front of the mirror of the light of God. Hence, when we realize that God sees us, we will not dare to offend Him. On the contrary, there will be born in us a desire to fulfil His law in order to please Him, to give Him pleasure, to merit His favours and graces, and to sanctify ourselves in order to become like Him. Herein lies true union with God for every one, and it is this that makes us holy. (p. 196) Quotes from Sr. Lucia's Calls regarding the Message of Fatima (p. 196)- with minor edits in some instances.

Thus Mary is for each one of us, the model of the most perfect holiness to which a human being can aspire in this poor land of exile. How many times will she not have read and meditated in her heart these words of Sacred scripture: “You shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy” (Lev 19,2). We also have the apparition of Our Lady of Sorrows, with a meaning that we must not fail to recall. But the more one flees from suffering, the more we find ourselves immersed in a sea of afflictions, disappointments and suffering. How can we say that we possess charity if we do not love God and our neighbour; if we cannot manage to make the sacrifices necessary in order to fulfil each and all of the Commandments? We have no charity if we cannot deny ourselves sufficiently in order to be pure, chaste, humble, faithful to God and to our neighbour who are poor and need our help, our assistance in their difficulty, our alms and our comfort; if we cannot deny ourselves enough so as to give to our needy neighbour what we do not, preferring to waste it on what is useless and unnecessary. By sin we damage ourselves , depriving ourselves of the grace of God, putting ourselves in danger of eternal damnation, throwing away our personal dignity, our good name, honour, material, moral and spiritual goods and, in many cases, even the possibility of exercising our freedom, since as the Lord says: “the sinner becomes the slave of sin”. We sacrifice our health and very often, our temporal and eternal life. Sad consequences of our transgressing the Law of God! Quotes from Sr. Lucia's Calls regarding the Message of Fatima . By webmaster March 17, 2025
As Jesus teaches us, the whole law is summed up in the love of God and our neighbour for love of Him; in other words, we love others because they are children of God like ourselves and, therefore, our brother or sister, with free will like ours, with the same rights as we have, and destined for eternal life. Accordingly, it is this love which leads us to observe each and all of the commandments, because all of them, in one way or another, refer to God and our neighbour. This observance always redounds to the glory of God, our own good and that of our neighbour. On the other hand, their transgression affects God’s external glory – that is, in his creation, not in Himself - does harm to our own good and the good of our neighbour, considered both as an individual and as a member of society. As we see, God gives Himself to us through love , and this love, when it is kindled in a heart, softens everything, sweetens everything, because it extinguishes the fire of unruly passions and smooths the ways of holiness, which consists in the observance of the divine Law, through love. It is then that the person’s love for God becomes more fervent, and the union between them is made closer by strong and unbreakable bonds, until this love becomes the person’s very life. And, led by this love, gives him/herself completely to God and to others, for the love of God. What one then desires is to communicate to others this treasure of grace and happiness which we ourselves now possess within us, to make the way smooth for them and help them to continue on it, so that they may enjoy the same good fortune which has made us happy: love. All true love demands giving, renunciation, self-sacrifice, self-surrender. This was how God loved us from the beginning. He created us in His image, making us sharers in his life, in his gifts such as intelligence, power of reflection, wisdom, free will, freedom and destined us for eternal life. All this sharing in His gifts which He has granted us, in the order of nature as well as of grace, is, on God’s part a self sacrifice, a self surrender, a self revelation and a descent, out of love, so as to raise us up, to honour us, to perfect us and to associate us with Himself. We have no difficulty in believing that such and such famous men, lived, because history mentions them. But it also speaks of the existence of God, his deeds, and his works. Why, then, do we not believe? Is sacred history less worthy of belief than profane history? Are the sacred writers less truthful than profane ones? Now, the sacred writers tell us; “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). In the beautiful lessons of Jesus Christ which he has left to us, we see the obligation we all have to practice charity and to avoid any impurity which makes us unworthy to be with God and our neighbour. We also see how we enhance our own nobility when we respect authority and practice the virtue of humility . As our Master has said “whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23:12). Jesus Christ is for us a model , which we must follow and seek to imitate. Although He was God and had therefore, all grace and strength, He was also truly human; and He chose to prepare Himself by prayer, to submit his human will to that of the Father, who needed Him as an expiatory victim for the sins of humanity. To his human nature, suffering, humiliation and death were repugnant, as it is for all of us, because they are the punishment for sin; sin which He did not commit, but for which He chose to make satisfaction on our behalf.” Quotes from Sr. Lucia's Calls regarding the Message of Fatima .((p.281) - with minor edits in some instances.

The Angel told Mary that she was full of grace: ‘Hail full of grace, the Lord is with you!’ If Mary had not been full of grace and all holy, the Angel could not have said that to her that she was full of grace, because she would have some stain of sin in her. ‘The Lord is with you,’ - said the Angel – because Mary belongs totally to God and exists totally for God.
