Dear Readers,
This is the sixth edition of our new updated newsletter, for the month of December. We hope you will enjoy reading about the latest Fatima news both locally and internationally..
DECEMBER - ADVENT: PREPARING THROUGH PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS
Last weekend, we celebrated the First Sunday in Advent, our yearly time of preparation for Christmas. The season of Advent is primarily about the birth of Christ in Bethlehem, two thousand years ago, his first Coming into the world, but it also looks forward to Christ’s second coming at the end of time.
In both cases it is a question of a time of anticipation, as we look forward to the celebration of Christ’s first coming in humility and silence – a coming which is repeated for us each year at Christmas – and then more remotely look forward to his final coming in great glory and power.

News updates from Patrick Cunningham
Dear WAF Members,
The Apostolate has been extremely active over the year, reaching out to members and the faithful across England and Wales. Key activities included:
- Visitations and
Pilgrimage:
Including the Fatima Pilgrimage and the Pilgrim Virgin Statue Cathedral Tour. - Formation:
Online Formation and Rosary Groups. - Community:
First Five Saturday Devotions, Prayer Cells and involvement with the Youth.
At the start of the year, Pope Francis designated 2025 as a Jubilee Year and a Pilgrimage of Hope—a call to action through prayer, pilgrimage, charity, and acts of kindness. This is a time for personal renewal, and an opportunity to reflect on the events at Fatima as we strive to live, learn, and promote the message of Our Lady and the First Five Saturday Devotion (FFSD).
As the year draws to a close, and we enter Advent to celebrate the birth of our Savior and redeemer Jesus Christ, I would like to wish you all a Blessed and Joyful Christmas on behalf of WAF-E&W Trustees, Leads, and Spiritual Directors.
2025 FFSD ENDORSED BY CBCEW
WAF-E&W joined in the spirit of the Jubilee Year by leading the Pilgrim Virgin Statue Cathedral Tour around England and Wales, taking with us the relics of Saints Francisco and Jacinta. Over the year, we visited 14 Cathedrals, as well as a further 17 parishes, making known the key messages of Fatima.
In May 2025, our Patron Bishop Mark O’Toole raised a resolution at the CBCEW, commending the First Five Saturday Devotion. The resolution was subsequently fully endorsed by the Cardinal and all Bishops of England and Wales. This represents a key moment along our pilgrimage journey:
Read the CBCEW Resolution: [https://www.cbcew.org.uk/plenary-2025-resolution-world-apostolate-of-fatima-cathedral-tour/
By God’s Grace, this devotion will grow, and with the help of all members, we can bring peace to our troubled world.
Please try to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the FFSD request made at Pontevedra, Spain, by the Child Jesus and Our Lady on December 12, 1925. WAF-E&W will be represented at the Pontevedra celebration on the day by Canon Jason Jones, Jerry Rivera, and Jeck Paler.
You may be interested to watch a recent short reel of Cardinal Burke lamenting that too few people are practicing the FFSD. Our Lady is asking for this devotion; why are we not doing it? Watch the Cardinal Burke Reel Here:

Please help promote the FFSD in your parish and diocese and follow in the footsteps of Sister Lúcia.

FROM OUR NATIONAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR
Spiritual reflections from Canon Jason ๏ปฟ
Mary pondered all these things in her Heartโฏ
As we begin the Holy season of Advent, we do so โฏin the closing weeks of the Jubilee Holy Year of Hope and also at the start of the centennial celebrations of the Pontevedra apparition of Our Lady to Sr Lucy 10th Dec.โฏ
December can be a frantic and busy month and in the midst of this Our Lady appears and asks for 15 minutes of meditation and to โฏkeep her company.โฏ
Maybe we are writing our Christmas Day lunch guest list, maybe we are replying to Christmas party invitations. The Immaculate Heart of Mary โฏis offering us an invitation which demands an RSVP, โฏa yes, โฏwhich is an echo of her “ yes” at the annunciation to the Archangel Gabriel. This invitation is to take up the 5 first Saturday devotion and to spread far โฏand wide the invitation to family and friends and to fellow parishioners .โฏ
It’s most appropriate that the Pontevedra centenary begins in the Jubilee of Hope as the fulfilment and spread of the 5 First Saturday Devotion brings hope to us especially at the hour of our death and brings Hope to the Church and to the World.โฏ
At a time when December with all the Christmas frenzy we are given the image of the Immaculate Heart this Holy Year Advent to โฏpulls us back to deeper things: reflection, longing, and the quietness. To pondering in our hearts as Mary did.โฏ
I’m the quiet peace of the Holy House in Nazareth, in the isolation of the stable of Bethlehem, Mary which enables true Hope to grow and to be established within her That would crescendo into motherly strength and fortitude and steadfastness at the foot of the Cross.โฏ
Our Advent journey in the dark winter nights is given hope by the ever-increasing brightness of light in the passing weeks. Mary at the Cross, when there was darkness over the face of the earth, โฏkeeps the pilot light of Hope alive until the dawn of Easter Sunday.โฏ
We can do no better this Advent than to keep the holy season in company with Our Lady and united to her Immaculate Heart.โฏ
Advent 2025 with Our Lady, โฏoffers a chance to rediscover meaning and purpose in a world that often feels hurried and overwhelmed. Almighty God aware of our troubled world then as now 100 years later, โฏ sent Our Lady to Sr Lucy with his Peace Plan from Heaven with the First Saturday devotion. โฏ
๏ปฟ
In keeping company with Our Lady this Advent on the First Saturday, we enable our hearts to slow down, to reset the pace in a busy life and world and to contemplate realities that really matter- Jesus the Son of Mary โฏis the reason of the Season.โฏ
I will have the great joy of being in Fatima this month and to be at Pontevedra on the actual centennial day of 19th December. Be assured of my prayers for you all those days.โฏ
I will entrust you and your loved ones to the Immaculate Heart and ask that Christ the Som of Maey be born in your hearts this Christmas and that His many gifts may remain with you through the coming year of 2026.โฏ
