CELEBRATING 70 YEARS SINCE THE CONSTRUCTION OF DOMUS PACIS

On October 13, 2024, we proudly observed the 70th anniversary of the commencement of construction of Domus Pacis in Fatima, Portugal. We share this information with you because Domus Pacis, which is owned by the WAF-USA, serves as a symbol for all members of the World Apostolate of Fatima, acting as the international headquarters for our Apostolate and its Secretariat.

In the official newspaper of the Shrine of Fatima, “Voz da Fatima”, of October 13, 1954, an extensive article in Portuguese titled: “International See of the Blue Army of Our Lady” says: “It has caused great interest and given rise to many questions on the part of the pilgrims visiting the area around the Shrine, the extensive and deep excavations of the grandiose building destined for the International Headquarters of the Blue Army.” Then, the article goes on detailing the mission and some major endeavors of the Blue Army.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the founding members behind this remarkable project, particularly the founders of the Blue Army, now known as the World Apostolate of Fatima, Msgr. Harold Colgan and Mr. John Haffert. We also acknowledge thes generous donors who, from the outset, have contributed to the construction and equipping of the facilities. Domus Pacis has been and continues to be an extraordinary building in Fatima. Its distinct architecture and iconic blue dome of the Byzantine chapel make it a prominent feature of the town, visible to all. Over the past 70 years, it has welcomed and housed thousands of pilgrims, hosted numerous international conferences and councils of our Apostolate, and facilitated retreats and solemn celebrations in both chapels, the Latin and Byzantine. Additionally, it has served as the home of the International Secretariat for many years now.
