November Indulgences for the Holy Souls
Regarding gaining November Indulgences for the Holy Souls, it is worth knowing that from midday today, 1st November, until midnight 2nd November, it is possible to gain a Plenary Indulgence which is applicable to the Holy Souls only, under these conditions:
Make a visit to a Church, say there an Our Father and one of the Creeds, and then fulfil the usual conditions of Confession - up to eight days before or afterwards - and also Holy Communion, and prayers for the intentions of the Pope (one Our Father and one Hail Mary). The indulgence may be gained only once a day.
In addition, a Plenary Indulgence can usually also be gained between 1st and 8th November, applicable to the Holy Souls only, by visiting a cemetery and praying there for the dead, even if the prayer is only mental, and then fulfilling the conditions above, including the prayers for Pope.
Anything we do to help the Holy Souls is a great act of charity since they can no longer help themselves, and are utterly dependent on us to help them.
If we release a soul from Purgatory, they will be eternally grateful and will intercede with God for us while we remain on earth.
Suitable indulgenced prayers which can be said at any time for those in purgatory are:
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.”
And:
“May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
